Understanding AQI
The Air Quality Index measures pollution levels and health impacts. Values range from 0 (good) to 500 (hazardous). Different pollutants including PM2.5, ozone, and carbon monoxide contribute to the overall reading.
AQI Categories
0-50 is good air quality with minimal health concerns. 51-100 is moderate. 101-150 affects sensitive groups. 151-200 is unhealthy for everyone. Above 200 requires limiting outdoor activities.
Checking Air Quality
AirNow.gov provides real-time AQI data by location. Weather apps include air quality forecasts. Purple Air offers community sensor networks. Check AQI before outdoor exercise or activities.
Protecting Yourself
Stay indoors during high AQI days. Use HEPA air purifiers at home. N95 masks filter fine particles when outdoors. Keep windows closed when air quality is poor.
